I Have To Tell
a memoir by Autumn G Pittman
In I Have to Tell, Autumn shares a deeply personal memoir of childhood abuse, neglect, family dysfunction, loss and survival.
Told in twenty five stories, the book moves the way memory does, not in a straight line but in moments. A dress. A judge. A kindergarten classroom. A father she found her way back to before it was too late.
Each story stands on its own, and together they reveal how a child learns to stay quiet and what it costs her to keep that silence for decades.
Through these vivid stories, she revisits the moments that shaped her life, from experiences no child should endure to the long journey of understanding, healing and reclaiming her voice.
Told with honesty, courage, and unexpected moments of humor, this memoir explores what happens when shame is carried for too long and what becomes possible when it is finally set down.
At 52, Autumn decided she was done carrying it. I Have to Tell is for anyone who was taught to keep the family secret, anyone still wondering if their story is theirs to tell and anyone ready to believe that the shame was never ours to carry.
Meet the Author
My name is Autumn and I live in Southern California with my husband, Uri.
I grew up inside the music business. My father built Groove Tubes and my childhood was studios, backstages, amplifiers and the people who made records in Los Angeles. I’ve spent most of my working life in that world, from the Jack of All Trades at Groove Tubes as a young woman, to the sales floor at Guitar Center and to managing product specialists across North America. Eventually ending up inheriting my father’s businesses.
Today I own Aspen’s Place Recording in San Fernando, on the same ground where my father’s factory once stood. I’m also a working photographer, shooting headshots and lifestyle work around LA and I co-founded Your Creative Bridge, a nonprofit mentoring platform for creative professionals.
I Have to Tell is my first book. I wrote it because some stories should not stay quiet forever, and mine had waited long enough.
